Michel Goulet : Part Life, Part Game

Josée Bélisle

For more than 30 years, Michel Goulet has devoted himself to a sculptural undertaking focused entirely on the object, chosen rather than found and then infused with contradictory content. His tables, chairs, domestic objects and model homes are infused with allusions to cultural, social and political contexts and, while filled with fantasy and memory, they embody a search for meaning through physical experience. Nowhere is the play between private and public, domestic and social more evident than with Goulet's public art. Placed in parks and in neighbourhoods, his works become focal points for discussion and use.

Michel Goulet represented Canada at the XLIII Venice Biennale and was awarded the Prix Paul-Émile Borduas for visual arts.
